Soil Filtration Lines
Soil filtration lines are dark soiled areas that gradually develop on carpet. They’re usually found along the baseboards, under floor length window treatments, under doors, and the outline of a peice of furniture. The problem can be worse near heating vents.
This soiling is caused by air currents passing through the carpet, which acts as an air filter, trapping the dust and soil particles. These particles also develop an electrical charge which causes them to penetrate deep into the carpet pile and cling tenaciously.
Unfortunately, these dark lines can be difficult and sometimes impossible to remove. If the lines are away from the wall such as under the door, we have a better chance of getting them out.
The best way to prevent them from occuring is to edge vacuumm and wipe the carpet along the walls with a damp rag regularly. Be careful however! The carpet tack strip has sharp points that sometimes poke through the carpet.
